Consuming and Producing

Consuming and Producing
Rapids on the Spokane River

Bottom line: We all consume. We all produce. It’s essential to our survival. Whether that is food consumption, that provides nutrients to the body, or information that helps us navigate the world around us, we must consume. Then we also produce, some of our outputs are not so optional, like the food example earlier referred to. Many things we produce however are very much optional, and can help us navigate the world, like talking or put simply, creating anything (which is very open ended but it is the case.) Producing something, allows someone else to consume that thing that was produced, and the cycle continues. So, why do I bring this up?

Every last one of us on the planet has the same number of hours in our day. Some people choose to sleep more while others thrive off of very little sleep. During these hours, we have a simple choice to make. How do we want to spend this time? The time moves regardless of if you want it to or not. Now there are no right answers to how we need to spend our time on this planet which can both be very freeing and crippling at the same time. Completely depending on how you look at it, your life can take completely different paths which is part of the beauty of the human experience. While one person may decide they want to put their efforts toward solving world hunger, others may not believe that they are able to make that difference, and may spend more time on activities that simply make the time pass. Some may devote their life to art, and spend any time they can creating music, or capturing moments with pictures, and others may see how much money they can make in their lifetime. Now people are always going to have differing views on how time should be spent, but at the end of they day, you are only in control of you. You are the only person that you can decide how your time is spent.

With this in mind, there are crucial questions to ask yourself. How do you want to spend your time? What do you believe is worth your time? What is of value to you and what do you enjoy? What can you do for the world, and what can the world do for you? These simple questions are questions that some people do not take the time to ask themselves, and while that is fine, this makes it difficult to lead a conscious life, where you bring yourself in a direction that you feel you want to go in. Where do you want to end up and what would you like done, before you do not have the chance? Bottom line, what would you like to consume, and what would you like to produce?
